Between the dates of February 11th to the 15th, I embarked in a learning journey like no other. Web 2.0 is the beginning to a highly interactive and collaborative adventure. To see my journal or personal reflections for the week that I was in the class, click on the link below entitled "class journal." It is important to note that the interactive dialogue between Cyber Brett, Cyber Hilllary and Cyber Obama took care of one of the reflective journal entries.

Located below is a project that I am putting together based on my trip to Machu Picchu that actually occurred during the Summer of 2006.

 Journey to Machu Picchu

Hi, my name is Brett Powers. I am married to a wonderful lady named Gabriela Powers. A couple of years ago, we went to her homeland in Peru. While I was there, I was able to visit the ancient ruins of Machu Picchu. In 1911, Hyrum Bingham was the fortunate discoverer of the ancient ruins. While I take you through my experience, I'll bring in some facts of the discovery. Obviously, almost a century has past since the first North American encounter with the ruins, but hopefully the pictures will be able to give you a visual of the majesty and power within the architecture that is Macchu Picchu, now considered to be the eigth wonder of the World.

Before we go to this ancient civilization, let's get ready. There are a few household chores and packing that must be performed. Here I am cleaning away. I'm getting ready to go abroad to a land far far away. Are you ready to join me? Oh, I almost forgot, to go on this virtual journey, I am going to have to put on my hiking clothes and get ready to meet up with a friend. It looks like he's there already. Let's go talk to him.

The flight was long and arduous, but we eventually made it to our destination. Obama got a little sick the first day in Cusco because of the sudden altitude change. We drank mate de coca, an herbal tea made especially for high altitude (more than 3,000 meters above sea level, which is 9-11,000 feet). The following day, we took a train to Aguas Calientes where we unloaded and hopped onto another form of transportation—the bus. Up and up we climbed the enormous Andes Mountains.  After a fifteen minute ride we finally made it to our unloading destination; nonetheless, our incredible journey was just beginning. Fortunately I was able to pursuade Obama to take the photos of our journey.

After our journey through tropical foliage, meeting the townspeople of the village and crossing through rivers and up to the ruins, we returned to Cusco. Of course, Obama took all of the photos. I got a little sunburnt.

Your story is a good example of how learning another language helps shed light on our native language. I should remember to share that with my students.

I'm glad you took a look at the 5 C's. These national standards are what guide K-12 teachers, and more of the college level teachers are taking a look at them now, too. I remember my Spanish students telling me that they learned more about English grammar in my Spanish classes than they'd ever learned! =) This PhotoStory app is obviously pretty basic, but it also makes it easy to get something quickly!

Oh, the part about the 3 C's is a little confusing to read - you might try putting it into a table to straighten it out? =)

Did you try putting the vokis in a table? I know the PhotoStory movies don't work - but the vokis might?

What a nice way to put in a political satire or parody into your work. I wonder if there's a voki for dub-ya.

Brett, I found your previous posts and put them back in - as you can see! You might want to still consider a table for the information you have on the 5 C's.

Brett, You've done so much to your page. It's very enjoyable and I liked it. I'm impressed with how much you've taken from this class and been able to apply. Plus, it was great being on your team w/ the group project.

Holy Vokis! They are all very good and I can tell that you spent a lot of time on your webpage. Good job and kudos to the Voki King.
